LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville leaders have unveiled a new street sign honoring a trailblazer for African American academics and artists in the city.
On Saturday, August 23, the corner of Winnrose Way and Fairland Place was dedicated as “Elmer Lucille Allen Way.”
Allen made history in 1966 as the first African American chemist at Brown-Forman. She also helped establish the Kentucky Coalition of African American Arts and served as a founding member of the Louisville Arts Council.
She continues to inspire creatives and aspiring scientists at the age of 93.
