The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has confirmed that Tropical Storm Fernand has formed in the Atlantic.

Fernand, pronounced (fair-NAHN), has maximum sustained winds of 40mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

The storm is moving north at about 20 mph and is not expected to hit land, and will remain out in open waters.

Forecasts from the NHC have Fernand strengthening into a strong Tropical Storm by Monday.

The storm will pass east of Bermuda.

This storm follows Hurricane Erin , which impacted areas along the East Coast, including in North Carolina.
