OMAHA, Neb. —
Clear skies and a light breeze set the stage for families gathering at the 59th annual parish festival hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
The church holds the fiesta every August, and this year was no different as 23rd and O streets filled with people enjoying the weather, music, food and games.
“This festival is for family,” said organizer Esperanza Chavir.
Hispanic culture is rooted in family tradition, something organizers say they are working to preserve.
“We’re trying to keep that tradition going with the younger generation as much as we can,” said Christine Plaza-McKenzie.
The event, which goes back generations, holds special meaning for many people involved with the church.
