SEASIDE, Ore. — What started near Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood ended in Seaside on Saturday, a nearly 200-mile battle against oppressive heat.

"It was hot, but we did awesome," a runner said.

"It was kind of a grind with the heat, but we all made it, and everyone is injury free, so we are thankful for that," said Amy Mcauliffe.

The "Mother of All Relays," one of the largest running relays in the world, is challenging enough — but this year's temperatures upped the ante. The teams, made up of eight to 12 runners, fought record-breaking temperatures in some spots along the route, including in the Portland metro area, where the city hit a high of 102 degrees — the summer's first triple-digit temperature. An Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect for Portland through Tuesday night.
