A motorist traveling at a high speed may have contributed to a seven-vehicle crash Tuesday that killed two women and injured five others on Route 202in Prince George’s County, Maryland, authorities said.

While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Maryland State Police said a 28-year-old woman driving a Honda Accord hit a curb divider. The Honda went airborne, resulting in a chain-reaction calamity involving the seven vehicles. A 92-year-old man and an 89-year-old woman were among the injured.

The crash occurred about 1 p.m. at the intersection of Route 202, or Landover Road, and St. Joseph’s Drive. Authorities identified the two victims killed as Prince George’s residents Tara Gross, 50, of Camp Springs, and Dandra Byrd, 31, of Riverdale. They were in the same Merced
