ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - Football season is starting soon and kids across the Carolinas are hitting the fields for practice. At the start of any season, safety is the most important.

Rock Hill’s Northwestern High School is starting off the new season with around 160 players. Head football coach Page Wofford has been with the team for seven years. He said football is a tough game that teaches life skills.

“So if you’re doing hard things, then you’ve kind of callused yourself to hard situations and you’re able to overcome and meet the challenges just in life,” Wofford said of the lessons learned.

After nearly three decades of coaching experience, Wofford said he has seen the game change over the years, including with an increased focus on player safety.
