JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —

A man was killed in a hit-and-run incident in southern Indiana early Sunday morning.

Jeffersonville Police Department said they responded a little before 3 a.m. to a man down in the 1800 block of Eighth Street.

JPD said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services. He was later identified by the Clark County Coroner as 41-year-old Samuel Carlisle.

Police said the driver of the vehicle that hit the man did not stop to render aid and continued on. The vehicle responsible has not been identified.

Jeff Shepard, who lives nearby, said crashes are common in the area.

“I go to work a lot of mornings at four in the morning, and there’s speeders going up and down the road all morning," Shepard said.
