COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - As the high school football season began, a 24-game losing streak came to an end for the first time in 149 weeks. The Spring Valley Vikings won a football game on Friday against rival Richland Northeast; their first since 2022.
The Cavaliers had a 19-point lead in the third quarter, but the Vikings rallied back, scoring 19 unanswered points to send it to overtime. Grady Tucker hit a 19-yard field goal for the victory.
First-year head coach Norman Washington is a Spring Valley graduate himself. He says getting this first win is proof that the culture is changing.
