BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A plane crash just outside of Gulf Shores International Airport sent two people to the hospital on Sunday.
Officials say a single-engine Beechcraft crash-landed around 2 p.m. on the west side of Highway 59 in a vacant lot between the Welcome Center and Coastal Community College.
The two people on board, the pilot and one passenger, were both walking around when first responders arrived. They were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.
Gulf Shores spokesman Grant Brown said it appears the aircraft's wing clipped a tree and spun the plane around, causing the crash, as it was coming in for a landing west of the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is expected to be on site Monday. Air traffic was never interrupted at the airpor
