MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — It’s the end of a legacy nearly 50-years in the making. Beloved Christmas store, Robert Moore and Company Christmas Town and Village Collectables, opened its doors Sunday for the final time.
Since 1976, those looking to deck the halls went down Halls Mill Road to find the shop. No matter the month of the year, this place was filled with Christmas cheer.
“My favorite thing is always watching the kids, whether they be two, three, four or five, six, eight, ten, 30, 40, 50, 60, whatever it was. And the twinkle when they came in the door going, ‘Oh my gosh,’” owner Larry Heard said.
Heard and Robert Moore first opened the store as a florist and gift shop. By 1981, they transformed the store into Mobile's very own north pole, and generations of shoppers fell in love.
“I
