UPDATE: at 7:10 p.m., a Carolina Alert went out saying "No evident [sic] of an Active Shooter at this time. Police are searching. Please continue to shelter in place until there is an all clear."

An active shooter was reported Sunday afternoon at Thomas Cooper Library on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus.

The university began sending urgent warnings using the Carolina Alert system at 6:34 p.m.

According to the alerts, the "subject is reported as a white male with black pants, approximately 6 feet tall and still in the area. Avoid the area.
