A Vancouver Island family is warning others about their hotel booking on Expedia that went horribly wrong.

The family was planning on staying two nights on Quadra Island, but when they arrived, they found the resort they had booked closed more than a year ago.

When Alexa McLane booked a two-night getaway for her family at the April Point Resort on Quadra Island, as a former employee, she had a lot of sentimental reasons for the trip.

“When my mom passed, my dad and I started making a tradition of just going up there on the anniversary and honouring her and having a little father-daughter getaway and last year I didn’t go because I was so pregnant, and then this year we went. I decided to take my husband and my daughter,” said McLean
