The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 6:57 p.m. on Sunday for strong thunderstorms in effect until 7:30 p.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) are expected.
“At 6:56 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Emerald Bay, or near South Lake Tahoe, moving east at 20 mph,” the NWS Reno NV said. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”
Locations impacted by the alert include South Lake Tahoe, Bliss State Park, Meyers, Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Emerald Bay, Sugar Pine Point S, Zephyr Cove-Round Hill Village, Homewood, South Lake Tahoe Airport, Stateline, Meeks Bay, Fallen Leaf Campground, Meeks Bay Campground and Luther Pass.
