CHARLESTON — Allison Anspach will sometimes look up from the dough she's rolling to find every table inside her new downtown bakery completely full. It's exactly what she envisioned when she first launched a cottage baking business years ago in California.
"I couldn't ask for a better turnout," said Anspach, who debuted Grit Bakery at 601 Meeting St., Suite 160, in May. "I'm excited to get up and go to work every day."
The South Florida native has been baking since she secured her first culinary job after graduating from Tulane University. The name "Grit" is a nod to the early mornings and long hours it takes to work in the food and beverage industry.
