CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston County Council is expected to vote Tuesday on final approval for a major safety improvement project that could bring relief for many living on Johns Island.

The intersections of Fort Johnson Road at Secessionville Road and Camp Road are known to be dangerous, but the goal of a proposed project would change that by adding stoplights at Secessionville Road and a roundabout on Camp Road.

“I think this will be a significant change improving safety. It'll improve the flow; it will slow traffic down, especially at the traffic circle, and lines the intersection better,” said John Martin, construction manager for Charleston County. “Also, with the signalized light, you won't have people hurry up and get through a stop sign and things of that nature."
