UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- It’s the first day of class, and students across Union County are stepping into not just new classrooms, but in some cases, brand new schools.
Queen City News crews were out Monday covering the big day in Union County, where two new schools have officially opened their doors: Forrest Hills High School and East Elementary School. A ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off the celebrations as students and staff began the new school year in state-of-the-art facilities.
These new buildings were made possible by a $134 million bond referendum passed by voters back in 2022.
And the investments in education aren’t stopping there. Just last November, Union County voters approved another $39 million bond. That funding will help build new facilities for Parkwood
