Police have locked down a city centre street after reports of a person being injured.

Officers were called to the Cowgate at around 2pm on Monday August 25 and closed a portion of the road off from Blackfriars Street to the Pleasance upon arrival.

The Scottish Ambulance Service are understood to have also attended the scene.

The exact nature of the incident or the injuries sustained are unknown at this time.

Members of the public have been advised to avoid the area with police remaining on site at 4.30pm.

A statement released by Police Scotland said: "Cowgate is closed from Blackfriars Street to the Pleasance following the report of a person injured received around 2pm on Monday, 25 August.
