EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Each year, approximately 2.5 million people in the United States develop pressure injuries, also known as pressure ulcers, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

To help prevent these injuries, researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) have developed a new kind of chair called ‘Sit Sense.’

Similar to a recliner, the chair is designed to reposition patients with limited mobility every 20 to 30 minutes, preventing them from remaining in the same position for too long.

“No other chair moves like this. It has sensors, so it can sense what a person needs and move automatically,” said Tamara Reid Bush, an MSU mechanical engineering professor.
