LAPEER, MI -- A watermain project on M-24 in Lapeer will slow traffic later this week, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

MDOT said in a news release that it plans to close two lanes of southbound traffic on the state road starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and continuing through 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.

Lapeer City Manager Mike Womack said in an email to MLive-The Flint Journal that the watermain project with allow for a connection by Aspen Dental, a a 3,500 square-foot medical office building.

A site plan for the development was given final approval by the city in June, Womack said.

MDOT has issued a permit for the watermain work in the area from Powers Street to DeMille Boulevard.
