EAST LANSING – There was no uncertainty for Michigan State at kicker heading into last season.
The Spartans returned big-legged Jonathan Kim, who broke numerous program records.
With the season opener against Western Michigan looming on Friday (7 p.m., FS1), Michigan State is in the opposite situation. Nobody on the roster has even attempted a field goal and the top two options heading into fall camp, returners Tarik Ahmetbasic and Martin Connington, are still battling injuries.
“Tarik is in that same boat in regards to a gametime decision,” second-year coach Jonathan Smith said after practice on Monday. “He hadn’t been able to do much last week, toward the end of the week some. We’ll kind of see where that lands with him.”
