LACLEDE COUNTY, Mo. — A Mansfield man has entered an Alford plea following sexual misconduct in 2020.

According to online court dockets, Wayne E. Shockey, born 1960, of Mansfield, has entered an Alford plea agreement to two counts of second-degree child molestion. He was originally charged with attempted statutory sodomy with deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years old, first-degree attempted statutory rape and sexual exploitation of a minor child in Laclede County Circuit Court.

Under such an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but concedes that evidence is likely to result in a conviction.

Court documents say that the state recommends Shockey serve up to 10 years in the Department of Corrections on each charge. The recommendations are for concurrent sente
