SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) — Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium ( MOTE ) will soon open the doors to three new research facilities dedicated to saving Florida’s disappearing seagrass.
The ribbon cutting will unveil the Ron and Marla Wolf Seagrass Restoration Center for Ocean Sustainability Greenhouse Facility, the Biogeochemical Carbon Sequestration Lab, and the Publix Seagrass Genetics Research Hub . Together, these facilities form the Seagrass Ecosystem Restoration Research Compound, or SERRC, at Mote’s Aquaculture Research Park on Fruitville Road in Sarasota.
Mote leaders say the compound is designed to accelerate science-based, scalable solutions for restoring and sustaining seagrass ecosystems that are vanishing at alarming rates.
