CLEVELAND, Ohio — A $2 million federal grant for construction of a Medina County roundabout is now in doubt after a state investigation found false information was edited into the application, though the project might have won the grant even without the change.
The Ohio Inspector General’s Office issued a report last week that said an Ohio Department of Transportation engineer altered the application in 2021 to make traffic congestion at the intersection of Ohio Route 162 and River Styx Road appear worse than it was.
The application, later submitted by the Medina County Engineer’s Office, helped secure the award in 2022 from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency for the use of a federal program aimed at reducing emissions and congestion.
