FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) – Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard showed off what they say is the largest drug offload in the agency’s history.

Authorities on Monday said their work is helping to keep Americans safer from the scourge of drugs.

“Today, we are witness to the largest drug offload in Coast Guard history,” Coast Guard Rear Adm. Adam A. Chamie said during a briefing in Florida.

It was a historic offloading for the Coast Guard at Port Everglades.

“A total of 76,140 pounds of illegal narcotics,” Chamie stated.

Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton is now back in American waters after an operation spanning two months across the Pacific and Caribbean, like the seizure off the coast of Haiti two weeks ago.
