Even in a normal year, Burning Man in Nevada can have an apocalyptic feel to it. This year, it really did look that way as a strong windstorm ripped through the desert festival.

Roughly 50 mph winds on Sunday whipped through Black Rock City, the temporary city that pops up each summer for the annual gathering.

Burning Man organizers said they temporarily closed the gates and four people were hurt because of the wind and dust. The injured are expected to be OK.

The powerful gusts also destroyed a massive art piece from Ukraine.

This isn't the first time intense weather has made a mess of the festival. In 2023, unexpected and heavy rains turned the normally dusty playa into a muddy quagmire. Hundreds of attendees were stranded in the desert until roads dried out enough for cars to travel
