DETROIT. (WILX) - As the Detroit Lions cut their roster down to 53 players ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, the team has released quarterback Hendon Hooker, who was the 64th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Hooker was seen as a developmental pick at the time he was drafted, but failed to showcase much development in the 2025 preseason, completing just 22 of 40 pass attempts with three interceptions and two fumbles lost.

The Lions are likely to keep Kyle Allen on the 53-man roster as the backup quarterback to Jared Goff.

Detroit will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 on September 7.
