BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - For the first time in more than two decades, the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) reports their first case of measles in the state on Monday, Aug. 25.
We haven’t had a measles case in our state since 2002.
A child under the age of five living in north Alabama has now been confirmed to have measles. ADPH says the child is unvaccinated and contracted the illness while traveling outside of the country.
The child did not attend daycare or school, so, exposure is thought to be low. The department says all of those who came into contact with them have been notified.
