CHESAPEAKE, Va. — With just one week remaining before Chesapeake Public Schools welcome students back to class, the Chesapeake School Board is working to ensure educators and community members are informed and prepared.

“Just know that we’ve been working hard. Our administration has been working hard all summer, and even into last school year to get ready for this school year,” said School Board Chair Angie Swygert during a Monday night meeting.

One of the board’s major focuses this year is supporting teachers and staff. Swygert shared that the district has hired 350 new teachers, all of whom will benefit from access to donated professional clothing and fully stocked school supplies through the Employee Financial Wellness Program.
