Survivors of a slain 3-year-old Augusta boy are asking for the public's emotional and financial help.

Gunfire at the Allen Homes public housing development on Aug. 20 killed Bryson Lamont Murray and critically injured his mother, Cherrelle Murray, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

The siblings, a brother and sister, are heartbroken, according to fundraiser organizer Andrew Benjamin on the crowdsourced online philanthropy website GoFundMe .

"Bryson is remembered as a joyful, bright and loving child whose smile lit up every room he entered," he said on the fundraiser's webpage. "His short time here will never be forgotten."
