A 40-year-old Dearborn man is in critical but stable condition after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday, Aug. 23, in what police called "an act of vehicular assault."

The victim, Haider Alfadawi, was crossing Michigan Avenue on foot around 10:45 p.m. when an SUV traveling westbound veered into the eastbound lanes, accelerated and struck him, according to law enforcement. Officers found him unresponsive with life-threatening injuries near Michigan Avenue and Howe Street before he was transported to a local hospital.

Murtadha Jabbar Alizairij, 38, of Dearborn, has been charged with three felonies in connection to the incident, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
