Six individuals sustained injuries following a dog attack in Bardon Hill, Leicestershire. The incidents occurred on Thursday, August 21, prompting a swift response from Leicestershire Police.
The first report came from a member of the public who witnessed a man being attacked by two dogs on Beveridge Lane. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate the dogs but soon found the victim. Approximately an hour later, at 7.44am, police received another call indicating that three additional people had been bitten by a dog in the same vicinity.
Officers subsequently discovered two loose Caucasian Shepherd dogs and safely secured them in kennels. Following further investigations, two more victims emerged, claiming they had also been attacked.
In connection with the incidents, a 17-year-old girl and a 47-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog in a public place. The 47-year-old man faces additional charges under the Animal Welfare Act.
A police spokesperson stated, "An investigation is underway following the incidents that happened in the area of Beveridge Lane, Bardon Hill. The first was a call reporting that he had witnessed a man being attacked by two dogs. A second call reported a further three people had been bitten by a dog in the same location."
In the interest of public safety, firearms officers were deployed alongside a police dog and its handler. Fortunately, none of the six injured individuals are believed to have sustained serious injuries, although they did require medical treatment.
Both arrested individuals have been released under investigation as police continue their enquiries. Due to a prior report concerning the dogs, the police have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
