OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A gas leak near Omaha’s Midtown area is causing substantial impacts to traffic Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews were on the scene just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday near 35th Avenue and Leavenworth Street.

An Omaha Fire Department official tells us M.U.D. crews have isolated the leak.

Our First Alert 6 crew on the scene reports a terrible smell, mainly on the 35th Ave. side.

Jaret Lansford with First Alert 6 Traffic warns drivers that Leavenworth Street is closed between 34th and 37th Streets due to the leak.

“Use either Woolworth or Dodge as the alternate route with construction ongoing on Farnam,” Lansford writes in the Traffic blog .

Aside from the gas leak, is also construction in the area.
