LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The number of traffic crashes and fatalities on Michigan roadways saw a slight uptick in 2024, according to newly released data from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Criminal Justice Information Center (CJIC).
In total, there were 288,880 crashes in 2024, an increase of 927 compared to 2023.
Fatalities on Michigan roads rose by four, with 1,099 lives lost.
Several categories saw notable increases:
Bicyclist-involved crashes rose by 20% to 1,773 incidents, while bicyclist fatalities increased by 21%, totaling 29 deaths.
Motorcycle-involved crashes increased 4% to 3,187, and motorcyclist fatalities rose 2% to 168.
School bus-involved crashes grew by 6% to 1,044.
Pedestrian-involved crashes edged up 1% to 2,131.
