Buried on the Patriots depth chart, a veteran safety was granted his request for a change of scenery.

Marcus Epps asked to be released on Tuesday, a source told MassLive , and the Patriots obliged. The 29-year-old was stuck behind Craig Woodson, Jabrill Peppers, Jaylinn Hawkins and Kyle Dugger on the depth chart, so his potential playing time looked sparse.

Epps had been a full-time starter during his final season with the Eagles (2022) and his first year in Las Vegas (2023) before tearing his ACL last year with the Raiders. He struggled to climb New England’s roster this spring, and as such, wanted to find a bigger opportunity elsewhere.
