Nearly 7,000 people of all ages signed up for the annual Summer Reading Challenge at Scottsdale Public Libraries — an increase from the previous year.
Of those, close to 3,300 participants achieved the milestone of reading 1,000 minutes or more, also an improvement over last summer, according to a press release.
Collectively, participants logged an impressive 7 million minutes of reading during the season. The challenge encourages readers to set aside time each day to build positive reading habits.
In addition to the reading challenge, the library hosted nearly 200 free programs for toddlers, children, teens and adults. Through these, more than 7,500 people enjoyed story times, STEM activities, art workshops, book discussion groups and live music performances.
