A Lanarkshire man who “battered the life” out of his mother’s ex-partner has been given eight years for causing his victim’s death. ‌

John Forsyth, 29, left Barry Evans with “catastrophic and unsurvivable” injuries during an assault which took place at his mother’s home in Wishaw on November 28, 2022. ‌

A jury heard how Mr Evans, 47, was left with a blood clot on the brain following the assault. Forsyth said his actions during the attack were in self defence - he said that Mr Evans had “lunged” at him and he acted to protect himself. ‌

But jurors rejected the self defence claims and convicted Forsyth on a charge of culpable homicide following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow earlier this year.
