WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — While the job cuts in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools are moving forward, community groups and neighboring school districts are stepping in to help educators and support staff who are losing their jobs.

Brian Proffitt, vice president of the North Carolina Association of Educators, says the layoffs are happening at the same time districts across the state are struggling to hire.
“There are thousands of shortages across the state,” Proffitt said. “Lots of districts are having really difficult times filling positions, keeping people who are able to stay in those positions permanently, or bringing in people with any kind of experience in education.
