SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) - With schools back in session, there are some things drivers should know about sharing the road with school buses.

Once a school bus stops with its red lights flashing and its stop sign extended, drivers need to know that the bus is either dropping off or picking up children.

This means that drivers should stop and not try to pass the bus from either direction.

These rules are important to protect the kids.

“Schools back in session, and big yellow buses are back on the road picking up kids. When the lights are flashing, you can’t pass them from the rear and from the front. Every time you see red, you need to come to a stop kids could be crossing the street either way,” said Transportation Director Tony Bos.
