SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Voters have elected Democrat Catelin Drey in Iowa State Senate District 1.

In a special election, unofficial results show Drey beat Republican Christopher Prosch by a vote of 4,208 to 3,411.

Drey is filling the seat previously held by Rocky De Witt , who passed away from pancreatic cancer in June. With Drey’s victory, Republicans still have a majority in the Iowa Senate, but not a super majority.

Drey is the founder of the grassroots initiative “Moms for Iowa.” During an interview with KTIV , she stated her top priority as senator is education funding.

District 1 is located in Northwest Iowa, covering a portion of Woodbury County that includes part of Sioux City.
