CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A woman who was riding the light rail when a man stabbed a female passenger to death is advocating on her behalf, despite being traumatized by the incident.

Tacara Howard said she doesn’t know the next time she’ll be able to ride public transportation with her mind at ease.

Howard witnessed the aftermath of the deadly stabbing, because she was just one light rail car away when it happened.

“It was so horrific, I’ve never in my life seen something so terrible,” Howard said. “Right now I just I think it’s going to be a while to get over the trauma from that night.”

Charlotte police said Tuesday the suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, didn’t know his victim, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska.
