MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - A longtime West Texas sports official known for his dedication to youth athletics has died.

According to a post by Midland - Northern Little League, Dal Watson, a well-known figure in West Texas athletics and a longtime supporter of youth and high school sports in Midland, has passed away.

Watson was a respected official who served as a football and basketball referee and an umpire for baseball.

Over the years, he became a familiar and trusted presence on fields and courts across the Permian Basin.

He played football at Odessa Permian High School and later at Texas Tech University before turning his lifelong passion for sports into decades of service to the community.

Watson was deeply involved in Northern Little League and was a key figure in the Midland Junio
