MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Manatee County School Board has selected the district's next superintendent.

Dr. Laurie Breslin, a former teacher, executive, and graduate of the district, is expected to step into the role in early September, pending approval of her contract.

“Dr. Breslin represents the absolute best of Manatee County. She knows our schools, our families, and our community because she (has) lived it— as a student, teacher, parent, and leader. We are confident she will guide us with integrity and continue our tradition of excellence," said School Board Chair Chad Choate III.

According to the school district, Breslin began teaching at Southeast High and Manatee High schools. She later served as an assistant principal at Manatee High and Palmetto High.
