TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Adelita Grijalva and Daniel Butierez are participating in a debate ahead of the Special Election to fill the vacant seat in Congressional District 7.

The Special Election is scheduled for September 23.

Grijalva and Butierez are vying to fill the seat that was left open when Raul Grijalva, Adelita’s father, died in March following a cancer battle.

Raul Grijalva, who was 77 years old when he passed away, was elected to Congress in 2002 following 12 years on the Tucson USD Board of Governors, followed by 13 years as a Pima County Supervisor.

In the primary, Grijalva beat out Deja Foxx, Patrick Harris Sr., Daniel Hernandez, and Jose Malvido Jr. with nearly 62% of the vote for the Democrats. Butierez beat out Jor
