It is to the benefit of Toledo citizens — especially those who are mothers struggling with addiction — that two donors have stepped up to help Aurora House make it through 2026, no thanks to Toledo city government.

Thank you, Trompeter Family Foundation of Brooklyn, Ohio, and an anonymous donor who provided the necessary $65,000 to keep the transitional housing shelter in Toledo’s Vistula neighborhood open.

The organization has moved ahead without rancor after it was knocked off the city’s annual Community Development Block Grant over concerns about its practices.

Rosalyn Clemens, the city’s director of Housing and Community Development, who oversees the CDBG block grant, recommended that the Aurora House receive zero funding in the upcoming year. City council unanimously approved that
