ELOY, AZ (AZFamily) — Monday was one of the first real tests for a multi-million-dollar dust detection system along a 10-mile stretch of I-10 in Pinal County, installed by the Arizona Department of Transportation several years ago.

Eloy Fire Chief Kelly Weddle and his crew began scrambling shortly after they saw the wall of dust coming.

“We haven’t had a good one like this in a while,” he said. But it wasn’t crashes they were running to. “It was only about 30 minutes before we got calls. There were electrical lines down, a lady got struck by a structure in her yard, only minor injuries thankfully,” Weddle said.

More than 5 years ago, ADOT installed a high-tech dust detection system.
