If you think you've noticed more apartment complexes popping up around North Jersey, you're right. And according to a new report, our region is leading the charge across the nation.
RentCafe's annual Apartment Construction Report — which compiled data on new apartment construction, specifically of buildings with 50 or more units, for 369 U.S. metropolitan areas in 2025 — found that the New York metropolitan area is leading the nation in new apartment construction in 2025 for the fourth consecutive year.
Our metro area is expected to have 30,023 new units completed by the end of the year, down 8.4% from 2024, the report said. It had increased its lead over No. 2 Dallas, being ahead by 1,065 units in 2025 compared with just three units in 2024.
