A political comeback began in Fultondale on Tuesday night.
Jim Lowery, the former longtime mayor, is returning to city hall after a five-year absence.
Lowery bested incumbent Mayor Larry Holcomb with 932 votes to Holcomb’s 380 votes.
“I’m really anxious to get back and work with the city council,” Lowery told AL.com . “We need to cooperate and they all endorsed me and I endorsed them. We’re going to work on getting back to business. Running a city like a business is very important but I always felt like we had a family run business.”
Holcomb had a contentious relationship with much of the council in the suburb in northern Jefferson County. In turn, they endorsed Lowery.
Only two Fultondale council members had contested races – Josh Bryant and Timothy McWilliams. Both incumbents won.
