After a heated, controversy filled election race, Nick Derzis has won the Hoover mayoral seat, beating incumbent Frank Brocato.

“Six months of hard work, six months of knocking on doors, six months of talking to people and finding out really what they wanted to see in the city,” Derzis told AL.com .

“I just think people are ready for a change…We want transparency, we want accountability, and we want vision. And we’re going to make Hoover Hoover again…the excitement of the city, the vitality, we’re bringing it back.”

The two candidates’ election parties could not have been more starkly different. In a quiet affair, Frank Brocato said he helped the city to grow in his time as mayor.

“We really, I think, turned our economy around. We open a business now about every nine days in Hoover,”
