Akinwale Arobieke, a bodybuilder known for his controversial behaviour, has been found dead at his home in Liverpool. Police were alerted at approximately 8.30pm on Tuesday to reports of a man in his 60s who was unresponsive at an address near Princes Park. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene.
The 64-year-old Arobieke was identified by authorities following the incident. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. They stated, "We can confirm that emergency services were in the Toxteth area following a non-suspicious death last night, Tuesday 26 August. At around 8.30pm, officers were made aware of a man in his 60s being found unresponsive at an address in Devonshire Road, Princes Park. He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
Arobieke gained notoriety for a series of incidents involving unwanted physical contact with men, particularly touching their muscles. In 2003, he was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of harassing 15 men. He was labelled a "modern-day bogeyman" but claimed he was a victim of a "modern-day witch hunt" by police after he lodged complaints against officers.
While still incarcerated, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) was imposed on him in 2006, prohibiting him from touching men’s muscles and entering gyms. In 2015, he was convicted for breaching this order after touching a young man's muscles on a train journey from Manchester to North Wales.
In 2016, Arobieke successfully appealed to have a 10-year ban on touching men’s biceps lifted, representing himself in court. His life and actions have sparked significant public interest and debate over personal boundaries and consent.
