EAST PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A dog and its owner were reunited and rescued after both became trapped in a ravine on Tuesday.

The East Peoria Fire Department was called around 2:35 p.m. to Apple Tree Lane for the trapped dog and its owner.

According to the fire department, the dog, Lupe, was about 50 feet down into the steep ravine. The owner said the dog had been missing for a couple of days, and they had jumped into a pile of brush down the ravine to rescue it. Neither of them could make it back up the steep walls of the ravine.

Firefighters lowered themselves and a basket down the ravine and brought both the owner and Lupe up.

No EPFD firefighters were injured, nor was the dog’s owner. The dog appeared tired but unharmed.
